Acquisition boost for Pisys in key market sector

Scottish software business Pisys has significantly extended its interests in the digital pen market with the acquisition of part of software and services firm Intelliscan Ltd.
The deal sees Intelliscan’s digital pen division and its 10-strong team join Pisys. It will combine with Pisys’ existing capabilities in this technology to form a dedicated division which will target global markets.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, has led to the creation of Pisys Digital Ltd
(PDL) within the Pisys Group, and brings overall personnel numbers at the Aberdeen based group to approximately 40.

Pisys director Peter Henderson said: “Digital pen technology has been an important area of focus for us already and we have in the recent past successfully launched products in the market, but this deal takes us to an entirely new level of activity.
“It broadens our customer portfolio hugely, and paves the way for many new
opportunities around the world. There is enormous potential for applying this technology in many sectors and we now have extensive expertise and experience at our disposal to do just that.”

Peter Henderson and fellow director Ray Allen of Pisys are being joined on the board of PDL by Jonathan Shapiro and Andrew Kings from Oldmeldrum-based Intelliscan Ltd.

Jonathan Shapiro said: “Intelliscan has been an established player in the digital pen
market since 2005. Combining its capabilities in this area with those of Pisys creates a powerful new entity in a growing market.

“We will support this move by investing in the development of new products and services to target sectors ranging from energy and transport to multi-vendor service providers – such as facilities management and pest control companies - and local government.”

Digital pen technology helps business cut administrative costs by speeding up the flow of information through an organisation. They look and write on paper like ordinary ink pens but use image recognition technology to transmit written information instantly to computerised office systems.
